After that, we maintain detailed records and provide accounting to the beneficiaries. Finally, once everything is settled, we distribute the remaining assets according to the trust’s instructions and officially close the trust.”

Ted: “That step can often be complex. First, we need to identify all outstanding debts and liabilities, which isn’t always straightforward. Sometimes there are forgotten bills or loans that pop up unexpectedly. We also need to make sure we pay any applicable taxes – federal, state, even estate taxes in some cases.
